Overview

Respondus LockDown Browser is a secure web browser designed specifically for taking online quizzes and exams. When in use, it prevents access to other websites, applications, and system functions, helping to ensure a controlled and fair testing environment.

Before you begin

Make sure your computer meets the system requirements for your operating system (Windows or macOS)  
For more information, follow the link to view detailed system requirements. You may also want to watch the included video before starting the installation process.

You will select either Mac or Windows prior to downloading (e.g., Do you need the Mac version?)

Procedure

 

Step 1: Download NMSU’s installer for Respondus Lockdown Browser.

  1. Select the Download button for your operating system (Windows or macOS) 
  2. When the File Download- Security Warning dialog appears, click Run to launch the Respondus LockDown Browser installer.
  3. In the installer window, click Install to begin installation. The LockDown Browser will be added to your desktop.

Step 2: Install Respondus Lockdown Browser

  1. Follow the prompts in the installer:
  • Select your preferred language, then click Next. 
  • Review and accept the License Agreement, click Next. 
  1. When you reach the InstallShieldWizard Complete screen, click Finish to complete the installation. 

Note:

  • Lab Computer — If you are using a lab computer on an NMSU campus, please contact the Lab Administrator to assist you with this installation.
  • Work Computer — If you are using a computer at work, you MAY need to contact the system administrator for assistance.

Step 3: Start the LockDown Browser Application

  1. Locate and open the LockDown Browser application on your computer. 
  2. When prompted, select your server from the list and click OK. 

Note: If your institution uses multiple e-learning systems, be sure to select the correct one from the list. 

 

What to Do next

Open the LockDown Browser application on your computer to explore its interface and get familiar with its features and functionality.
