Overview

The Virus & threat protection section of the Windows Security app helps protect your device from viruses, malware, and ransomware. This article will provides detailed step-by-step instructions for Windows Windows 10 & 11. 

Important: Before you use Windows Defender Offline, make sure to save any open files and close apps and programs.

Procedure

 

For detailed step-by-step instructions, see the following key areas:

  • Current Threats – View active threats, recent scan results, and start quick or advanced scans.

  • Protection Settings – Manage Microsoft Defender Antivirus settings or configure third-party antivirus software.

  • Security Updates – Ensure your device has the latest threat definitions and intelligence updates.

  • Ransomware Protection – Set up Controlled folder access to block unauthorized changes to protected folders and configure OneDrive recovery options.

 

To access this feature, open the Windows Security app and select Virus & threat protection, or use the provided shortcut: Virus & threat protection
