Overview
You can connect to shared computers and file servers on your network—such as Mac or Windows machines with file sharing enabled—and servers that use AFP, SMB/CIFS, NFS, or FTP protocols. This guide also applies to users who have been granted access to a shared NMSU vault drive.
Note: The steps and screenshots in this guide are based on macOS High Sierra, but the process is similar for Sierra and most earlier macOS versions.
Procedure
Step 1: Open the "Connect to Server" Window
-
From your Mac desktop, go to the Finder menu at the top of the screen.
-
Click Go, then select Connect to Server...
Step 2: Enter the Server Address
-
In the Connect to Server window that appears, click inside the field labeled Server Address.
-
Type your server path (e.g., smb://vault.nmsu.edu/education
).
-
Click Connect to continue.
Tip: If you're unsure of the correct path, contact the administrator who added you to the vault. They can provide the correct directory information.
Step 3: Authenticate
-
When prompted, select Registered User under the “Connect As” section.
-
Enter your NMSU username and password in the fields provided.
-
Click Connect.
If your credentials are correct and you’ve been granted the necessary permissions, the shared vault will open in Finder and be accessible like any other folder on your Mac.
