How to Activate Your NMSU Account & Email (First Time Users)

Overview

Creating your myNMSU account is a one-time, required process that grants access to the following systems:

  • Canvas Learning Management System (for online courses)
  • Scholar Dollar$ (for managing scholarships and financial aid)
  • STAR Degree Audit (for tracking academic progress)
  • myNMSU Portal (for essential online functions, including email)
Procedure

Step 1: Activate Your myNMSU Account

  1. Visit the Activation Website
    Go to https://myaccount.nmsu.edu/activation to begin the process.

  2. Follow On-Screen Instructions
    Complete the on-screen steps to create your myNMSU account.

  3. Enter Your Details
    Provide your 9-digit Aggie ID (800xxxxxx) or Social Security Number, along with your date of birth.

  4. Review and Accept Terms
    Carefully review the terms and conditions, then accept them.

  5. Create Your Username
    Choose your permanent myNMSU username.

  6. Set a Temporary Passphrase
    Create a temporary passphrase for your account.

  7. Verify Your Information
    Double-check the information you entered to ensure accuracy.


Step 2: Finalize Your myNMSU Setup in the Portal

  1. Confirm Account Activation
    Make sure your myNMSU account has been successfully activated. 

  2. Enable 2-Factor Authentication
    Log in to the myNMSU  portal and activate 2-factor authentication for secure access.
    (You will need an authentication device, such as your mobile phone. International numbers are accepted, and you can update this later. Mobile charges may apply.)

  3. Set Your Permanent Passphrase
    In the "Password/Passphrase Management" tab, create a non-temporary passphrase (valid for two years).
    Be sure to choose a passphrase that is at least 17 characters long. You can also reset your passphrase here


Important Note:

Account creation may take up to 24 hours, but it is typically completed within a couple of hours. If you’re unable to log in after 24 hours, please contact us using the information below.


What to Do Next:

To sign in to your myNMSU account, visit my.nmsu.edu and click on "Sign into MyNMSU."
