What Is It?
A Virtual Machine (VM) is basically a separate computer running on a larger computer (the host). The virtual machine is actually just a file on the host computer but behaves and can run as its own machine — with its own files, settings, and operating system. Many NMSU servers are actually virtual machines, and if your department needs a server we can provide a server in the form of a Virtual Machine. They are cheaper than physical servers and easier to manage.
Who is Eligible to Use It?
Academic and administrative departments at NMSU may request the hosting of Virtual Machines. Often, Systems Administration services are also requested.
