Domain Request

What Is It?

When you want to have a website, people need an address, or domain, to type into the address bar to get to your site. One domain can only go to one site, so they need to be unique with no one already using the domain name. That is why domains need to be bought/requested. When requesting a domain from NMSU, you must have an alternate option in case your desired name is already taken. Typically with NMSU sites, your site would look like: https://uniquename.nmsu.edu/. But users could potentially use something else if it is available for purchase.

NMSU departments can request IT help to purchase a domain. A domain is essentially just the name of a website, such as "nmsu.edu" or "google.com." Each domain points to its own website or web server and is owned by the individual, corporation, or organization that registered the web address with an accredited registrar.

Who Is Eligible to Use It?

Academic or administrative departments and department heads within NMSU are eligible to request domains through NMSU's domain request form.
